I am similar. The sound didn't bother me years ago but after my dog had a skin issue once which was made worse by his licking – that is he opened up a wound again and again by prolonged licking that was in the process of healing – the sound makes me feel very uncomfortable. It's also a sound that wakes me up quickly.
