Staff: can you lock posting of any media behind certain post count?

i happened to be present during the latest tantrum of a certain onion boy and while the speed at which the mods came to the rescue is commendable ít feels like something needs to be done to prevent that from even happening.. i mean, imagine getting home, checking the only place on the internet where you can be open about yourself and all you see is horrific imagery all over the forum by some kid. or worse, stumbling upon this forum while searching for zoo info and said imagery is what you find here. call me weak-sauce, but one of the gifs did kinda scar me....

littering this forum with random shit is all the onion kid can do so why don't you just take that away? is it doable? locking posting of anything besides plain text behind certain post count? like 100 or so? 10 feels easily bypassed... 100 sounds like you're getting invested.

There's several things that I think would help prevent a repeat of this morning, a posting delay of at least 24 hours after creating a new account and a decreasing time between posts until a set amount is reached, and most of all disable the PM system for all accounts with less than 100 posts.

I wouldn't like the implementation of those ideas.
No posting of media below a certain post count would be the least bad of those ideas and I think that's something one could implement without upsetting or scaring off too many new users.

But a 24 hour waiting period before you can post after creating a new account is a plain bad idea. For one, it only delays his posts by 24 hours, so it doesn't help anybody in the slightest and for the other, that's a barrier that WILL keep people (not all, but some) from joining.
And barring the pm system for anyone below a hundred posts is even worse as an idea.
It won't keep trolls from being trolls, at most it will force them to lay low for some time before they troll you and it absolutely will scare off new users.

The best way to deal with annoying people on the internet is actually just to utterly ignore them.
The amount of attention he's getting is insane.

In his case, his insanity is contagious. Swine never change even when their spots and stripes go away. Whats at their cores remains.

why is it contagious? has he influenced someone else to post gore gifs and behave like an idiot?
Seriously, just ignoring him, reporting him and besides that not interacting with him in any way would have a longer lasting effect.

That, or finding out where he lives, telling me, and I'll drive over and hit him with a baseball bat xD

Its easy to say" ignore him" when you havent experienced the blessings of his attentions. Any or all of these ideas are viable, and potentially useful.
As far as this site is concerned, Rules are rules. This is a unique site these days. New users will adjust to any rules they have to, to use the site's ....ahhh....resources.
What you're saying is veteran users will have issues with any measures that actually MIGHT work. Well, Hallelujah....he"s still winning.

100 seems a little on the high side, especially considering that Nothing usually doesn't make it past 5 counted posts before his account is snuffed out, since he's typically a fun and games spammer. Maybe 25-50 counted posts being obtained before being able to post images/videos might be more reasonable. A 25 hour image post delay will not do much to stop him, as several of his accounts were several days old from today's debacle. @ZTHorse what do you think on this matter?

I wouldn't want to see a posting delay after a new account has been formed. The first thing I did after joining Zooville was to post a message introducing myself. If I'd been locked from doing so I probably would have only browsed the zoo porn for an hour and never returned.

I don't think anything really needs to be changed. I reported the tantrum this morning and it's already dealt with. Let the wankers wear out their fingers; pretty soon their couple hours of stupidity will be wiped from existence and memory. And thank you, mods.

You're right, I haven't been on the receiving end of his attentions, but I've dealt with trolls on other sites more than once and just don't understand why it should be a problem to ignore PMs from people you don't know/didn't interact with prior or set every account he creates on your ignore list and report it.
Sure, he could still try to gather dirt on someone and try to dox him/her, but that's possible right now and will still be possible when the mentioned measures get implemented. The fact is, short of going to him in real life and breaking his neck, you can not stop him. Period.
There are just two ways of dealing with him: ignoring him or visiting him and MAKING him stop.
The second method is, probably, out of the question, so we're stuck with door number one.
No matter what the mods will do, he will not stop. No matter how many threads about him we will open, he will try to use them to defend his actions and enjoy the attention.

But that's just my opinion and I'll stop now, before someone (I know exactly who) swings by to insult me without rhyme or reason, demanding I shut up because I don't know what I'm talking about.

the thing is, it's not just pms. i literally came here today and half of the larger threads in non-porn subs i frequent had fucking gory gifs posted all over them... i'd very much hate to be the mod who had to look at and delete them (thumbs up to whoever of you mods had to be the one).

having a minimum post history requirement to be able to attach any media to replies would leave the onion boy with just text (+emojis i guess). that feels a lot easier to just ignore than accidentally scrolling past a gif of some guy blowing his head off with a shotgun on loop.

It was so bad this morning that I was warning people on beast chat to avoid the forum until the mess could be dealt with, absolutely nobody should have to see even one of the disgusting things that were posted all over the forum, there was no way to avoid at least one.

How about a maximum post limit until a certain level of participation is reached? I admit I don't know how much coding that would take, but "lurkers" being limited to five posts a day, "tourists" ten, and settlers and higher being allowed to post freely?

New account restrictions are fairly normal for forums. Though 100 is pretty extreme. Of course nothing can really put a full stop to the bad eggs, they can at least mitigate it. There was an attack on SoFurry a few years back with large numbers of accounts uploading shock imagery, some of the accounts involved had been sitting around as "lurkers" for months and even years. Don't know if they were hacked accounts or if someone had just been preparing and bidding time building up a stockpile of dumby accounts.

They key is finding a nice balance. And any new account restrictions should be prominently listed at the time of registration or minimize the "why can't I do this?" posts.

I saw those gifs. I saw them the last time he posted them, too. I report everyone I see immediatly. And then I carry on with my business.

The only way to stop them is cut the source hoping someone tracks these trouble makers down and (ill leave you to fill the blanks).

Id link post count to media post ability. 100 real text posts of trying hard to be acceptible will bust his cap....he wouldnt be able to stand it long enough. His "Trix are for Kids" alarm clock would go off and give him up.

100 is a lot. At the rate I'm going, I'd be able to post media sometime about 2028.

But I'm fine with it if it means not seeing that again.
