Opinions on posting content?

I as a fellow zoo enthusiast, have wanted to be less of a, how to put it, stalker? And actually contribute to the forum. It is in my opinion, rude to constantly request, view, and download material from other posters without contributing as well, even if only a couple pics. For me it would be my first time posting anything with my boy ? but I keep running into a not so unique roadblock. Privacy. I do not mean this in a negative way by any means, but you don't know anyone on these forums, and I have a rather identifiable breed of dog. Now I understand it is that discretion which keeps us safe in this pessimistic society we have today but I think more of it falls into the category of not being "caught", fear of someone recognizing my companion and calling me out. But at the same time, why would anyone recognize my boy (or myself) from ZV without being here for zoo reasons themselves? These things constantly have kept me from contributing myself and honestly it's not something I like, I want to share with the community as well as justify my being someone trustworthy on the forum. I have had some smaller conversations with individuals and would possibly share with them but to the general forum? I don't know how to feel. Opinions?

I have one hard rule when sharing self made content, never show anything that can be easily traced back to you, be it showing too much of yourself, a easy to identify companion or just the area where you recorded or took pictures at.

Unfortunately there are going to be people who come to these types of forums to look for lives to ruin so you need to be extremely careful. The first post in the rules sticky in this forum has information on security as well as a link to further reading on how to keep yourself and your companion safe if you do decide to take photos or video.

What @HorseInspector069 said. Also, history shows that only sharing in private with supposedly trustworthy persons has often enough resulted in it becoming public after some time. So it is recommended to be cautious there as well and only share what would not get you into legal trouble.

I appreciate some recordings people share, I am thankful they do. :) I just don't want anyone to have a false sense of security and suffer from it later.

Thanks for the reply everyone, I think maybe it'll just take a little bit of working up the nerve to start sharing. And maybe get some "practice shots" to work at making sure the content is unrevealing ?

If you have an easily identifiable breed, your name can be linked to a location, and/or you have any distinguishable marks (unique birthmarks, tats, piercings) then you're probably better off not putting yourself or your boy at risk. Not to stoke the paranoia, but authorities were able to identify and charge a man in Australia based on a unique mark he had on a finger in the form of a freckle. Granted it was for a much more serious crime, but if law enforcement is determined enough to set an example and you've made it easy for them would it be worth the few pics or vids you put up?

Thanks for the reply. I feel I should clarify something. I am fortunately pretty vanilla had one piercing but no tats or birthmarks. And while my guy is an easily identifiable breed he's also a pretty common colored one of his breed. I guess my issue is that there aren't that many in the area I live in which causes that paranoia
