Nvidia RTX VSR

So Nvidia has added a new feature to 30 series & 40 series GPU's called RTX VSR and it will upscale any videos played in chrome & edge ( ive only been able to get it to work on edge) and its actually pretty good, ive been testing it for a few days on a few sites and it really adds new life to older low quality videos. has anyone else used this if so how do you feel about it?

Not yet but I know what I'm doing today 😅
Shame they haven't done a plug-in for Firefox or VLC, but I read you can use it with video files by opening them in Edge or Chrome.

I have a 30 series and that sounds real nice for the sole purpose of being able to watch shit on streaming platforms in my native res. They force me to watch 4k content in 1080p on my 1440p monitor and won't even let me download in 4k.

im sure there will be a plugin for firefox soon its still very new! there has also been talks about the possibility of them adding it to 20 series aswell.

i havent tried DRM controlled content as i just tested with some sites, i dont daily drive edge or chrome, but i think it should work on every site

I have the 30 series and it's certainly promising with the amount of new updates and features they keep releasing. I think my last graphics card, a Radeon, had like three driver updates and then they must have got bored :ROFLMAO:

Good. So now you will not have to reupload old content 50x original size. :D
Don't you worry, when we have they ability to upscale all the Petlust videos to fully detailed 4k, I'm sure HJ Split will make a come back :p

ive only used nvidia i do alot of gaming and tbh amd hasnt been good for gaming untill about 2 years ago lol

can confirm opening the video with edge will upscale it
Wow, okay this works pretty damn good actually. I tried opening a 480p video in both VLC and Edge and there is a clear different, the detail is a lot sharper. Even works with 1080p videos (my screen is 1080p) where the compression on the phone has ruined the detail. Downside is Edge only seems to play .mp4

I don't care about upscaling old porn videos, but I am very much into 3D design and I have AMD Gygabyte RX 480 and I have a good performance with it.

NVidia RTX VSR sounds impressive, but what I completely failed to understand is how could anyone spend >1000 bucks for graphic card only to watch an old porn with better quality??? Guys, really?

They don't make porn videos like they used to :ROFLMAO:

I'll admit my RTX 3050 is the mobile version in a gaming laptop and the entire laptop cost less than £1000 but the performance is still brilliant. I always had AMD/ATI before but I'm impressed since switching.

yeah you can easily convert videos to .mp4 there is some free software for it

i have a desktop with a 3090 and a laptop with a 3070 but i will be building a machine soon which will have amd GPU in it so i can run holo-os im basically building a small for factor for traveling

I have Handbrake and Premiere, but I think that's going beyond the amount of effort I'm prepared for 😅 maybe I'll just try convert some favourites and see.

I updated my drivers and tried it out. It tried it on two separate videos, one that's heavily compressed and another that's simply low resolution. It really doesn't help with bad compression at all, but it seems to work somewhat well to upscale low res videos. Only thing that bothers me about it is that the upscaling gives faces a pretty wonky Forrest Gump CGI or uncanny valley deepfake sort of look to them if you crank it to 4. Utilization on my 3060 Ti got up to around 30-40% playing videos with it all the way up.

It's also worth mentioning that having it on completely broke TOR when I tried to open ZooVille back up

That's so strange since TOR browser is based on Firefox, unless you use a different one. I never even thought to try it with Firefox but it doesn't work even with hardware acceleration switched on manually.

Good job I'm not looking at faces :p

When I built mine during covid, I used a 2070ti. They were just about to introduce the new 3000 series. I wanted to do 4K, but the price of the cards and monitors was ludicrous!!

it breaks visual studio code aswell, it tries to upscale it

I legit didn't even think about this until you just said it. Time to open up that old Vcrypt container and see what I can get my 4090 to upscale! Thanks for the reminder lol.
