Medical Question?

My dogs got a tick problem. And I've tried pills, powder, and collars. Of corse I pull them off when I can. But he's gotten to the point he fight me over them and stays away from me. Is there any over the counter medication I can give to calm him down, so he doesn't fight me while I pull them off. He is about an 60 to 70 pound lab

do u put spot on/other tick prevention meds on him so he dont get as many?

normaly pulling them is not hurtfull what happened that he is scared of it ?

there are anti tick/flea shampoos so u only would need to shower him with it and they die off/dry out

Try asking here,

I assume you’ve tried the flea meds like frontline, frontline shield, and the oral meds from the vet? I’ve heard that frontline isn’t working well anymore, but I’ve had good luck with the newer Shield version which also repels them, where Plus just killed them after they bit.

As far as otc meds there aren’t many. Can try Benadryl but you’d have to ask your vet for the dosing. Valium, acepromazine, trazadone, tricyclics, those are all prescription.

Permethrin extremely effective with ticks, topical application, only counter issue is if you have cats who like to groom the dog or lots of close proximity with them

I use 0.5% spray to treat couch, bed, carpet, clothing

then I use over the counter liquid drops that you apply to neck and base of tail.

then I treated the local area by coating cotton and placing it out for mice to use for nests, that way you treat the mice and the mice collect all the tick nymphs. takes a while but you seriously take down the population.

it is a lab, my lab makes a massive fight over de ticking as well.

Advantix (Imidacloprid + Permethrin)

If there are a lot of ticks, you need to repeat it after two weeks and then every month.
You need to press on the skin and not on the fur. Divided into 4 points on the spine. Neck, shoulder blade, center of the spine and tailbone.
Everything is described in the instructions for use. It can be purchased without a veterinarian.

My dog had a huge tick problem. There were a few large ones and many tiny ones between his toes that I wasn't aware of for who knows how long. The vet sent me home with three months worth of Simparica Trio, which kills ticks, fleas, heartworms, hookworms and roundworms. The ticks were gone in practically no time and haven't returned. Of course, before the vet could prescribe it he had to perform a quick heartworm test to be sure Mr. dog didn't already have them, which he didn't.

Simparica Trio isn't cheap, but considering how effective it is it's well worth it. It cost me $50.00 per tablet, which is good for an entire month.
