I would say you should base it by his reaction to it. Is he enjoying it? Or does he seem indifferent or just totally not interested? Use that as a base line to determine how often and how much you should play. Hope this was helpful.
Uh, give him a break for a bit? See if the dog is comfortable at least, but its best not doing it every single day many times a day.
