Nah, as a food enthusiast, I absolutely love experimenting. Some of the best dishes I've made were created by tossing some things in a pot/pan/oven/grill and seeing what works and what doesn't. The chili I'm making is rather simple though. Hamburger, tomato sauce, chopped onions, chili beans, a quarter cup of water, and 3/4 a can of beer. I've added in some chili powder, salt, pepper, red pepper, a dribble of hot sauce, garlic powder, and a pinch of paprika. I fried the hamburger, then added the rest of the ingredients. I'm letting it slow cook for 2.5 hours.
I'd recommend crushed chilli over chilli powder. It still get's through the dish, but provides a nice kick every now and then.
Touché! It's kitchen French for "Damn! You're right!".
