Animal brother/sister, father/daughter breeding?

Does anyone know if this ever happens, and how common it might be? Is it ever deliberately done by breeders, for what reasons? I guess most would avoid it, for obvious reasons, but there might be exceptions. 🥴

Es passiert sicherlich auch mal, aber sicherlich unbeabsichtigt, weil der Züchter unachtsam war und die Tiere zusammen kamen.

Inbreeding happens naturally but it is even in nature undesirable from genetic point of view. The natural mechanism of preventing this is that young animals usually find their own territory far away.
Breeders should avoid that but considering that money is often the force behind breeding dogs for shows, I guess it sometimes happens.

In the process of artificial selection of breed groups, inbreeding is used as a tool. Basically, if you are not experienced in breeding work, you should better avoid it. However, a single entry into the retraction does not have any critical consequences.
The imbreeding threshold for canines is generally quite high. It is not uncommon for wolf families to practice inbreeding in the wild. The high threshold of inbreeding for these species is part of the natural adaptation mechanism.
