Another thread reminded me of an event I'd nearly forgotten, but it was somewhat funny, so I'm going to share it.
This would have been at my mother's house while one of her brothers was visiting. It was late, everyone else had gone off to bed so I and the uncle were talking a bit while watching the movie Jerimiah Johnson, in which there's a small throw-away bit where Johnson and Gue are talking about another man, Hatchet Jack (deceased) and Gue remarks, "That Hatchet Jack was a wild one. He was living with a female panther, two years in a cave up in the Musselshell. She never did get used to him.".
I'd remarked something along the lines of, "Hatchet Jack was a lucky man, imagine a cougar"; nothing too edgy as that uncle and I had spoken of bestiality before, he himself having tried it and while not really his thing, saw nothing wrong with it. It was just one of those idle comments, didn't expect much response, but I was shocked when I heard, "What? I don't understand what you mean." from behind us for, at some unknown point in time, another person had entered the room, sat down and was silently watching the movie with us. Being taken completely by surprise, I was completely unprepared; I don't recall exactly what I stammered, but I'm certain it made as much sense to him as my statement which he was questioning. And that is how I learned to be a bit more paranoid about who's around when you're sure nobody else is around.
Curious to hear about incidents where you might have made a comment about bestiality around someone you didn't realize was there or listening.
