A Typical Days Barn Turn-Out

EponasDevotee

Esteemed Citizen of ZV
I thought perhaps that some of those that have or desire equine companionship might appreciate and enjoy seeing the beauty and enthusiasm of a typical days barn turn-out for some of the equines I'm either caretaker or keeper to.

We have two herds here, the barn herd and the Four Amigas herd (formerly the Cinco Caballo herd) Sadly I lost one of my beloveds in June 2024 so the Cinco Caballo herd has become the Four Amigas herd. The Four Amigas are not stalled in the barn at night (e.g., are on continual turn-out with access to a large 20 ft by 40 ft shelter).

Sadly I lost the striking chestnut-flaxen mare in this video in September 2024, she was the mother of the one that I lost in the Cinco Caballo herd. 2024 was NOT an ideal year for me...

I loved the way they set off on their Run-About, they looked like they Really Enjoyed getting out for their run. It looks like they had a lot of pent up energy to release.
🙏Thank You @EponasDevotee it was good to see them doing that, You have a Wonderful job at times.👌👌👌👌

Happy days at EponasDevotee's! They're all having so much fun, and I'm sure the two have gone to a better place. Oh to have such a carefree life as them!

I always forget how loud they are when they run, makes sense considering how much they weigh and probably have metal shoes on

When my molly is out in the arena with the other horses, I often just grab one of the cheap plastic chair we have at the ranch and just watch them run around if I am not currently preoccupied with other tasks.

She looks at me, and whines almost as if she's saying: "Hey! Are you watching me?! Look what I can do!!" and then does whatever she decides to do with the other horses. I can't help but smile when I see her run around.

We've known each other since 2014. And I still can't believe it's been 11 years almost to the day that I first met my girl. And I will cherish every moment with her for as long as she lives. 💕

They are so happy, I am happy to see them so cheerful and carefree.
I'm sorry for your losses.
Excuse me for asking, but what is that on their face? What is it for?

looking it up it seems like it's only for work horses
Most of the time, we definetly need them for soft hooved horses and coarse asphalt. To avoid damages. There are alternatives not made of metal, I have never tried them. Else less is more.

They are handy on work horses. You can had bolt/spike on work horses shoes to maximise the grip. Do not forget them... makes the kicks even deadlier.

I had a very sensitive pal that didn't want to go barefoot on the road... such a sissy. But we did not need shoes, just patience.

Well, I don't want to answer instead of Eponas. But it is a very common thing.
Those are masks to avoid them having flies in the eyes, even sometimes in the nose. It is bothering to have thoose fuckers here.
Plus on some white horses, it makes a convenient sun screen.
I new a dominant horse that didn't like them. He grabed away other's horses masks. Naughty.

Thanks for the great explanation!
Having flies in your eyes really can't be nice.

They are so graceful, beautiful, and look so happy together in this video. I like to see that they have plenty of space and face protection from flies. I love to see even the little ones getting to run together with the big ones, that all just brings me so much joy
